Leadership Is Not Convenient

Leadership Is Not Convenient

Posted on 20. Nov, 2011 by in 1 Leadership

Convenience doesn’t characterize leadership. It’s marked by the constant calling of stepping up and outside of what we feel like doing. In either way we are called, excited or sullen, the call of leadership demands of us the honor of doing what is right.

The internal struggle we have with what we want to do and what circumstances require is character building, indeed, but it’s not convenient.

Whether faced with triumph or difficulty, we today, now more than ever, need more of us to lead people with not the stain of deceit, but with the mark of honor, respect, dignity.

Though leadership is not convenient, the rewards when taken in with high regard voids the struggle. For in each of us the calling to do good in this world and for others is a timeless calling. We cannot forget this in our businesses, institutions, churches, teams, groups, schools, or families.

Love the post Shawn – simple and impactful. It is a core idea that has lots of different topics that could hang off it – life balance, resilience, ethics, etc. . . . . Way to open a good can of worms. :)

      Hi Scott,
If people are willing to look at what the can of worms opened and then act on it, I’m happy.

      I appreciate your encouragement, Scott,
      Shawn

Thanks Shawn… great reminder. My favorite, and in my opinion one of the most important leadership quotes is as follows… “A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

      Ted,
Love that word “molder.” To mold requires compassion, passion, and a focus on others not one’s self. Excellent point, Ted.
